Eight Random Things About Myself

June 26, 2007 at 10:45 pm by mahud

Upgraded My Wordpress

I’ve finally updated my Wordpress Blog to 2.2. Not to many problems, and I only needed to update one of my plugins, so things kinda went pretty smooth. I love the new auto-save feature, and the export import file thing.

Random Facts

This is a bit of a late one. Thanks Terri for tagging me!

I’ve been a bit apathetic this past week, lacking direction, unable to see what my real purpose of life is (if I have a purpose that is). But hopefully I’ll get more productive over the next few weeks.

These are the rules should you decide to play

  1. Players start with 8 random facts about themselves.
  2. Those who are tagged should post these rules and their 8 random facts.
  3. Players should tag 8 other people and notify them they have been tagged.

Random Fact 1 (I like reading)

I like reading anything about ancient and classical history, as well as religion and mythology. My two biggest influences are Joseph Campbell and Robert Graves. I’ve read RB’s The White Goddess endlessly, to try a figure out some of the bigger theories of his book, without much success, but I just find his stuff really compelling.

jcwea.jpg

Try checking out some Robert Graves’ his unorthodox historical novels too, esp’ I, Claudius (and the other books in the series), King Jesus, and Homer’s daughter, Graves fictional attempt to show that The Odyssey, was written by a woman, based on the unorthodox theories of Samuel Butler.

Although I largely quit reading fictional novel’s after almost finishing Stephen King’s It, well over ten years ago, I still enjoy the odd novel. Anyone read The Source by James A. Michener?

vforvendetta.gif

After Novels I began reading mostly comics, such as Sandman (my fav is a A game of you), Hellblazer (I prefered Jamie Delano’s Jon Constantine), Doom Patrol, V for Vendetta (although I discovered V years before in a British Comic called Warrior), Shade the Changing Man, The Invisibles, and a few more.

I had a pretty massive collection. I would hunt out expensive back issues, and even new titles were something like twice the price in the UK, compared to the US. When I became a Christian I trashed the lot. weep.

Random Fact 2 (Writing Stuff)

I like writing stories, although I haven’t completed anything.

tjm.jpg

I’ve written an unfinished comic book script entitled Corridor Assassins, surrounding a group of mystic misfits, who can travel time and space through a corridor generated by a supercomputer called the Janus Machine.

kid.jpg

I have written and drawn a more underground style comic book concerning a character called Kid. So far I’m about 40 pages into it, and the way it’s going, it might take another 300 pages before I can finally tie all the elements together for the apocalyptic climax. I also inked a few Kid comic scripts.

My most ambitious fictional project is set in the fantasy world called Cortexia, although most of the story just floats around in my head, and have yet to be (if ever) written.

I’m also planning on writing a book about the ‘death & rebirth deity’, titled Between Old and New Moons, and plan to do a web version for this site, as well.

Random Fact 3 (Music)

From the age of 12 I have been obsessed with music. My tastes are all over the place, from Dub Reggae to classical, but I’ve never been big on genres, and mostly 99% of all music is rubbish, although it does depend on individual tastes, as to what classifies as rubbish. Some random favourite artist’s include; Funkadelic, The Can, Julian Cope, The Pixies. I could go on but the list is pretty massive.

I learned to play the classical and electric guitar, for a year or so, and write songs, but mostly I suck.

Random Fact 4 (Japanese RPG’s)

I love the Final Fantasy Series, and have completed all but two of them. My favorite Nintendo FF has to be FF4 (although I love FF5 almost as much). My favourite Playstation FF is undoubtedly FFX.

anima_.jpg

I also loved N64’s Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Another RPG close to my heart is SaGa frontier II. The only RPG that has ever beaten me is Unlimited Saga.

RPG’s combine my two favourite things: Incredible Music, Visual Storytelling, plus endless hours of fantastic gameplay.

Random Fact 5 (Internet Connections)

I’ve only had a PC since 2004, and so I’m still a bit of a Internet Noob. I originally intended to use the computer to help study mythology, but I soon learned how to create graphics, mainly for forum templates.

Eventually I learned XHTML, and CSS. I have spent months learning JavaScript, and while I have pretty much all the basics covered, I’m still a long way off using it for anything worth while.

lion.jpg

I love web design and digital art, but alas, no one will hire me. If anyone would like their blog redesigned let me know. I’m thinking rather than pay me money, send me a couple of good books ;)

meshan.jpg

Shanny and myself

I met my girlfriend Shanny on the Internet. We were very close online buddies for a couple of years, who fell in love with each other. I travelled from the UK to Canada to be with Shan, and we have been living with each over for a year now.

Random Fact 6 (Hair)

I like to grow my hair very long. At the moment is is only down to my shoulders, but if I look after it a bit better than last time (wash it and brush it), I’ll hopefully avoid getting big chunky beaver tail style dreadlocks, like last time. I’ve grown my hair long about four or five times, and on my last attempt, got it down to my elbows.

me1.jpg

My hair is a kind of boring brown colour, although I recently discovered some totally black hairs in the mix. I’ve also discovered my first ever grey hair, which I think is cool, because I’ve always wanted to have white hair and the earlier the better.

My obsession with long hair, began when I used to listen to Heavy Metal when I was a teenager, and then I became more hippy (indie-underground-alternative) in my musical tastes, and so the tradition lived on.

Also it is possible I have a genetic tendancy to grow my hair long. Although far from proven yet, my family my have some Native American DNA, and I have always thought that Native American culture/s rocks!

Regarding facial hair, I started to shave when I was in my mid twenties, but I am unable to grow a beard or even a decent looking mustache. I’d love a long flowing beard to match my hair, and then I can get me a nice long white robe and be Mr Natural.

Random Fact 7 (I smoke too much)

Actually, I’m trying to quit at the moment, and I’m chewing alot on that nicotine gum stuff. I’ve been smoking since I was 11. I stayed round my friend’s house one night and watched the Good the Bad and the Ugly, and I was enchanted by the scene, where the Mexican guy was tracking Blondie (Clint Eastwood), by the cigar stumps in the camp fires. I’ve been smoking ever since.

gbusig.gif

I’ve only tried to quite three times before. Once when I was 16 (lasted about a week), and again in 2000, for three months. I made another lame attempt last year, and managed for 3 or 4 days. Hopefully I’ll do better this time.

I really need to quit, because I feel that smoking is having a counter productive effect on my mind-body-soul, preventing me from progressing along the ’spiritual’ path,

Random Fact 8 (I love everyone)

I really love people, but suffering from social Anxiety shuts me off from any real decent friendly loving joyous contact with the family of Humankind. I have hope that things can change. It’s the only thing that has kept me going since I was 15 or so, when my people phobia kicked in.

iftwst.jpg

You’d think it would be easier on the net, than it real life, but it’s not not really. When you are cut off from society is a big way for like seventeen years, you loose all your social skill. A bit like Arther Dent at the beginning of Life, The Universe, And Everything, after being stuck on prehistoric earth for so many years, you forget what trees are called and stuff, lol.

I’d like to have a more active role in society, especially helping those in real need, but until I get myself sorted out, I’m not much use to anyone.

That’s about it

I know it was meant to be Eight Random Facts, but mine kinda ended up as a life story…oh well :D

OK, I Tag….

Another one with Random Facts Envy here.

Mahud, I used to suffer greatly from agoraphobia-not quite a socila phobia but near enough-for almost a quarter of a century.
It’s gone now-not a trace left behind, and I’m not absolutely sure where it went to.
    Not that I miss it!
It disappeared just about overnight, too.

    Love,
    Terri in Joburg

Thanks, Terri. Wow, that’s amazing that you lost your agoraphobia, after 25 years! Perhaps there’s hope for me yet :) I’ve had SA for around 17 or so years, and I’m hanging on in the hope that I’ll overcome it one day.

    Thanks for Sharing that :D
