YouTube: Joseph Campbell And the Cosmic Cycle
July 4, 2007 at 6:33 am by mahud
Joseph Campbell compares the mythological theme of the Cosmic Cycle in the Hindu Puranas, the Icelandic Eddas, and the writings of Berossus, unveiling an enigmatic link between the external rhythm of the universe with the internal rhythm of our own hearts.
The Sumerian King List, Biblical Pre-Flood Patriarchs, and the Ten Avatars of Vishnu
We again find the same idea with the 10 Great Avatars (incarnations) of the Hindu god Vishnu, except here it is his first incarnation as a fish (Matsya), who rescued the Hindu Noah Manu (who is both the first king, and the father of mankind), from the universal flood. Kalki, Vishnu’s ten and final avatar is destined to appear at the end of the current world age (Yuga) known as the Kali-Yuga, which is an age of darkness and moral decline. He will come riding upon a white winged horse called Devadatta (Gift of God), wielding a flaming sword to slay the demonic Kali (who is probably just a masculine form of the Goddess Kali), thereby restoring all things, passing from one world cycle into another purified revolution of cosmic time.
