Syncroblogging on Mythology anyone?

February 10, 2008 at 12:33 pm by mahud

Update: The theme for the Syncroblog is Landscapes. Thanks to everyone participating. If you would like to join in, add a link to your post in the comments below. Due date is around 22 February (Next Friday). The Deadline has been extended to 1st March.

I’ve had this on my mind for a few weeks now, and since I’ve recently adding a few more myth related blogs to my blogroll, I thought some of you would like to participate.

  1. A. Venefica’s Weblog
  2. Jewish Myth, Magic, and Mysticism
  3. Paleothea - Sing, Goddess …
  4. Myth and Legends
  5. Mythphile
  6. ReligionThink
  7. The Spider’s Den
  8. Stone Circle
  9. Thoughts On Mythology

And naturally any of my Pagan, Christian, etc, readers who would be up for it are totally welcome too :)

If you would interested let me know in the comments, and we can also discuss the subject of the Syncroblog, and figure out a date and stuff.

Ooo… if I am understanding what you mean, that we all write on the same topic, I could give it a try!
As you see I only just embarked on the wide world of blogging last week, but the more material the better, eh?

    Hi Mahud,

What a primo idea…that is, if I understand the concept of synchroblogging correctly (I’m a neophyte blogger, to be sure).

    I’m honored to participate.

-Will stay tuned for subject & deadline info.

    With high regard,
    A.V.

Hi, Ailia! It’s great you are interested. I have a few ideas for a topic, but haven’t made a decision yet.

Hi, Ellen. Your blog looks great! I’m looking forward to reading your posts. I’m always excited when I come accross a new mythology blog.

Hi, A. Venefica! great another willing particpant! :D

I want for a few more days to wait to see if anyone else shows up and in the meantime come up with a topic. Of course, if anyone has any ideas, I’d love to hear them.

    Thanks again!!

Considering the synchronicity of my last post , I’d like to cover William Rufus, the (possibly) Last Sacrificial King of England.

Remember that I’m 7-10 hours ahead of most of you guys though.I’ll try to time it for my Friday afternoon.

I’ll be out of pocket for tomorrow, the deadline - so I posted my bit of the project early.

This was fun - thanks Mahud for facilitating & the invitation!

Hey, Mahud! I just added a link to the Synchroblog via MetaPagan, though it will take a few hours to show up in the feed and blidget. (If you didn’t know about the blidget, it’s a really neat toy that our readers can install directly on their blogs. Apparently, there are hundreds up at this point–pretty cool, huh?)

Anyway, perhaps you’d be willing to extend the deadline a bit, in case our readers want to get in on the fun? I know I have actually composed a post that totally fits with this theme, just this morning: I did it when I woke up, with no knowledge of your Synchroblog! But, since I just posted a long and complicated entry yesterday, I wanted to wait a day or to to actually post this new one–I don’t want to overshadow one with the other.

Well, either way, I’ll send you a link to the post when it goes up, and I’m looking forward to reading others’ posts, too. :)

Hi, A. Venefica! Recently I’ve been unable to access Wordpress.com blogs, except through google cached pages.

Thank you for sharing the Nordic creation with with us. I, for one, and fascinated with the dismemberment of Ymir, and over gods of cosmic sacrifice (such as the Vedic Purusha and the Chinese Pangu) whose bodies became creation.

It’s interesting to know that a hypothetical PIE *yemo is thought to be the prototype of the theme of the cosmic sacrifice within PIE scholarship. *Yemo I believe means twin, which etymologically connects the name cosmic primordial Ymir. I Hope to write something on this subject in the future.

    Thanks for you contribution!

Hi, Yvonne. I’ve been having some difficulty posting my comment to you synchroblog post so I’ll comment here.

Of course, there’s always the possibility of attaching new mythology to the land, as you develop your personal relationship with it.

It would be interesting to see the rise of new mythologies within the diversity of Paganism community.

Identifying the religious practitioner with the living landscape, as sacred places and events where meeting with the Gods and Goddesses in place of imbued power, add to the mythic lore as reminders of the sacred places of power. Such connections with the land are an important part of ontological alignment the both the group and individual, and the deities.

It strikes me that my post from yesterday, which was a guest post by Peter O Gamhna describing the people and landscapes he’s encountered in meditation, might be appropriate for this synchroblog. In case anyone is curious, it’s here:

I’m confused about Metapagan’s widgets and de.lici.ous and all that — I don’t quite know what I’m supposed to do to register this entry with them.

But I did make an entry, although I’ve been fiddling with it well past midnight adding pictures and such! :D Oh well.

Here it is: Atlantis: Myth and Legend. I don’t really sound very pagan in it, but it’s a land that holds a lot of personal significance to me; those stones sit on my altar. (I’m juggling a mythology blog read by academic colleagues with personal spiritual leanings.)

One problem. I have to change the name of my blog in the next few days. I’ll have the Mythprint domain for a while, but it’s soon going to have a redirect attached to it. So anyway, that link will break after a year.

Comment on March 2, 2008 at 12:39 pm

Thanks for posting! It’s a bummer that Mythprint was already taken. Hope you can come up with a new name, you like!

I’ll fix the links when you make the transition :)
