A Mythological Cosmic-Lunar Calendar (1 of 13)

Around March I devised a Cosmic-Lunar Calendar to help develop awareness of the cycles of the moon in conjunction with my own syncretic mythos through meditation and myth.

1st Lunar Month: Aphrodite (Ouranos and Gaia)
Well known as the Love Goddess and her relationship with her lover Adonis. In my lunar-cosmic framework, she functions as a Goddess of Life and rebirth. It was she who placed the infant Adonis in a chest (a lunar-cosmic womb symbol and lunar boat that crosses the barrier of death and life), and left in charge of the Underworld Goddess Persephone. It is the beginning of the Lunar-Cosmic Cycle that her lover Adonis is reborn to Aphrodite in the guise of Cosmic Mother. She corresponds with the Egyptian Goddess of the 7th month, Hathor (House of Horus), the cosmic cow Goddess, who’s four bovine legs uphold the cosmos, as illustrated on the famous Narmer Tablet, hanging upon the belt of the Pharaoh. Four representations of Hathor’s bovine head, also suggest (I’ve long thought) the female reproductive system.
The secondary myth in the Lunar Moonth of Aphrodite is the cosmogonic myth of Gaia (earth) and Ouranos (sky). According to Greek myth is was during the castration of Ouranos and the separation of Earth and Sky that Aphrodite was foam born, from the Sky God’s severed genitals, upon the ocean. The corresponding secondary myth of the 7th month is the Nordic cosmogonic myth of the slaying of the giant Ymir, whose slain body was used to create the world.
