My spiritual beliefs have been and remain to an extent shaped by Christianity. Growing up I didn’t really have much exposure to spirituality. I was raised in a monotheistic culture. I knew the stories of the Old and New Testaments. I sang Christian Hymns every morning at school. But It was never something that had […]

The Problem is how can a Bible believing Christian be both faithful to their Christian calling without demonizing other faiths?
My only solution, if I were a Christian, would be to accept that the Spirit of God is not only available to those who accept Christian doctrine, but rather to all who practice a […]

To live as a Pagan or any other religious practitioner the basic requirement is to recognize the divine and revere it. I’ve always liked (since I first heard it anyway) the Zoroastrian maxim of “good thoughts good words and good deeds,” and I think it is a good place to start when approaching the divine. […]

Reading Ali’s post Meadowsweet and Myrrh: Aesthetics and the Sacred, made me think some more about the sacred. Originally it was going to just be a short comment response on how I viewed the sacred in everything (and a newly planted idea in my mind about the nature of things that I think is best […]

Another contribution to the International Pagan Values Blogging Month
I don’t believe we live in a universe where two opposing truths can both be true. Maybe that’s a little bit simplistic and un-philosophical of me. And I find myth a more helpful spiritual guide than philosophy. I’ve never been much in to scientific theories beyond my […]

From life to death. To death from life. From life to death.
Cernunnos manifest and re-create through the mystery of death.
In darkness and in light give freedom to my footsteps
and guide me into your secret place.
There, grant me rest in your abundant peace.

This past month has been difficult for me. Hopefully, within this new lunar cycle and month of April, I’ll return more to myself and be able to feel Pagan again (This ’spiritual’ stuff doesn’t come as naturally to me as I’d like it to). Starting today, I am committing myself to daily meditation. A few […]

What distinguishes the witness of the prophets and the apostles, so that it can have this significance for the existence of the congregation and its proclamation to the world? After all, they were men fallible as we are, children of their time as we are of ours, and their spiritual horizon was as limited as […]

The Cyclic Serpent
The tail devouring serpent, known as the Ouroboros, is unarguably a cyclic symbol. In Norse mythology it is the sea-dwelling Midgard Serpent (Jormungand) that surrounds the world (Voluspa 50; Gylfaginning 34, 48; Skaldskaparmal 4; Hymiskvida 22; Husdrapa 4), making it a symbol of the cosmos, or like the Greek god Oceanos, the ocean […]

A Mythology is like a series of sign posts, that direct us through this cosmic mystery, which is also the mystery of our own existence. Mythology is a product of the sub-conscious, which in turn, is the product of the underlying cause of all things, and so creation myths and end of the world myths, […]

In my previous post On the Threshold Between One Life Path and Another, I said that, “I’m a big believer that everyone whether they are secular or spiritually inclined are, in the larger scheme of things, on the right path towards whatever it is that their life is ultimately about.” By this, I am not […]

I was sad to learn via The Wild Hunt: Outgrowing Paganism? that the excellent Deo’s Shadow will no longer be podcasting. It’s been pretty obvious for some time that it was over. Now it is official

Some time ago I was considering following a pantheon (either Irish-Celtic or Nordic, as I’m English-Irish). I inquired about this using Tarot, asking, “Should I become familiar with the Celtic or Norse divinities?” On reflection it was a dumb question, as it is my experience that Tarot (my prime method of communication with the divine) […]

Happy New Year!
As you can see I’ve given the blog an overall, changed the title (formally known as ‘Between Old and New Moons’) to “Cernunnos’ Path” and have created a logo to represent my religious path through Pagan-Mythic symbolism.
The idea for the logo was largely the by-product of ritual I created and performed by […]

I am on Cernunnos’ Path
Is he the One or but one of the Many: I know not
Is he the Logos or the Mythos: I differentiate not.
Is he the Male or Female, both or neither: I know not
…not yet.
Woven within his labyrinthine antlers resides a mystery: I understand not.
I know his name is Cernunnos: His […]

I shall Learn through relationship with the divine. Spend time practising my path. Widen my spiritual-self as far as possible. I may need to be as far-reaching as the cosmos itself, before I’ll ever wholly understand. Do not seek to wholly understand. Be boundless.
Keep the speed of self-cultivation down to a minimum. Let the […]

Around a week ago, Jeff posted his third and final part of the Steve Pavlina Book Review.
I had been meditating/pondering quite a bit the hero’s/fool’s journey quite a bit, and I shuffled and cut the deck and flipped over the Fool. I thought it would be cool if I could try again and flip The […]

One night, eight or so years ago, after a period of (what is known within Christian circles as) backsliding, I was reading a recently acquired translation of the Upanishads, when I came upon the opening Upanishad in a translation by Juan Mascaro. You can read the Isa/Isha Upanishad here, but here’s a brief excerpt from […]

The current incarnation of my altar
My Altar has been steadily evolving since I first set it up back in October last year. The mythical symbolism remains the same. The necklace (symbolic of lunar-cosmic space-time) I’ve replaced with a wonderful wooden snake I won at a medieval fair last weekend. As soon as I saw it […]

This weekend Shanny and I travelled to Medicine Hat, which is like a hours drive from Brooks. Neither of us drive and so Shanny’s mum was wonderful enough to drive us. We ate Chinese food and looked around the various shops and stuff, keeping an eye out for bookstores. I spotted one second hand bookstore […]

It was great to discover a recent post at Simple Magics: Solitary Series - Venturing into the Community. I’m uncertain where my interest in Paganism is taking me. I’m spiritually inept.
Part of my problem is unbelief. This has a lot to do with why I ceased living as a Christian. To be precise, my prayer life ceased. For intermittent periods of time over 10 years, I would pray. I would repeatedly pray for myself and others, but nothing in my life […]

I’ve finally set up an altar, and have chosen an image of Cernunnos as a representation of my Panentheistic understanding of divinity. The arrangement is pretty simple to look at, although It is based on a wide range of mythic images, as I understand them.

This post originally started out as a comment to a recent post at Druid Journal, Hearing the Song of the World, where Jeff shares the story of Komo the Shepherd boy.
It’s surprising that the tale of Komo is not traditional. I also thought of the myth of Adam, naming all the animals in the garden, […]

Far beyond all oceans, lakes, rivers and springs, Medusa coils endlessly, weaving the web of life, like a half forgotton dance. Maneuvering through these landscapes of time, a driving audhumla, dancing down the moon laughs, and cries aloud,
“Oh, magic in these hills, in ten thousand days, will I reach Pandora’s Bazaar?”
And like […]

Spontaneous fellow that I am, I simultaneously created and performed my first ritual today.
I lifted a blanket in the air, representing heaven, and laid it upon the floor, representing earth. I folded it twice, partaking in the act of creating the cosmos, and sitting in the centre, I became a part of creation.
I closed […]

Religious symbols are different from signs inasmuch as symbols participate in the reality to which they point, he (Tillich) argued. Symbols and signs both point beyond themselves to something else, but symbols participate in the meaning and power of the reality for which they stand. They open up the deepest dimension of the human soul […]

Finding my spiritual path is not easy. I need […]

Questions for Pagans
Ever since I was a teenager (I’m hitting 33 now), when I began thinking about religion, I was also very much entranced by nature, but I never really made the connection. Eventually I became a Christian.
Now I’m an ex-Christian who is seriously thinking about becoming a Pagan. I have so many questions for […]

I’ve been aware of the connection between dream and myth symbols for a while now, but I’ve only recently made the connection between myth and visualization, specifically through meditation.

Christianity was there when I needed it
I took a […]

The Nature of Mythology according to Joseph Campbell

I have walked the Christian path on and off for around 11 years. The former half (probably the last 4 or 5 years) as a Fundamentalist Christian, and the latter as a Liberal Christian. I never actually applied either of those terms to myself, but I guess they are the simplest ways to describe my […]

Dream of Shiva
In my dream I saw Shiva, then someone painted blue with long ears dressed as Shiva, and then I’m sure It was me who dressed up as the god. I remember some vague stuff about mystical marriages. I think Shiva’s wife was there also, I think it was Sati, dressed in white. It […]
